So i wanted to make a type of horror map for fun and i wanted to add a handheld torch using commands and potion effects. So the problem is when i apply 'Blindness' and 'Night Vision' Effects on me my whole screen goes completely black. The black screen goes away until both or one of the potion effects time out. I asked my friend if he had this problem but he did not when he tested it. I am not using any mods only pure vanilla minecraft.

[Current Version 1.8.1]
[Windows 8.1]
[Java 64-Bit]

Please Help. Thank You.

[Edit]
I want a answer. Not a way around this but a 'Answer' to fix this. I don't want to see random off topic posts or things that might help but a Real Answer. That's It.

For those that still don't get it Blindness and Night Vision is suppose to make you see a small area lit up. For some people (Like Me) the screen will go black. There is no crash but the screen just goes plane black. You can try it yourself see if you get the effect that is explained or just get a black screen.
[Edit 2]
Alright Everyone. Thank you to the ones who tried to help. I will leave this unsolved and try something else to make this torch system work. You no longer have to respond to this i will just find a way around it.

I request that this is leaved locked and unresolved.

Again thank you to those that tried to help.

Try deleting your minecraft and re-installing or downgrade your minecraft version.

I have done that and yet not even re-installing minecraft works. I have tried older versions but the same thing happens.

It will not work, your friend must be trolling you, I played with these effects for years and know they will work out this way. Blindness will achieve your intended effect, older version of Minecraft, even uninstalling it will not yield any change because that is how the game system works. Just follow the advice, I'm a map maker myself and know the best choice for effects.

I know this effect. You should know that using blindness only will have the intended effect, if you use night vision with blindness, a black screen will definitely appear. Just think of this logic:
Blindness causes you to see the region in darkness and diminishing lights
Night Vision causes you to see clearer, enhancing vision in darkness.
If both are combined, the logic works out this way:
Blindness makes you see near darkness, Night Vision makes you see light in darkness, but between these 2, only blindness will have the lead, causing you to see nothing,
because Night Vision tries to make you see light, blindness diminish lights.
I tested with these 2 effects and understand what you need. (This make me wonder, did you test all the potion effects before making any maps?)

You said this doesn't happen to your friend.[/quote]

I just finished talking to him about it i looked at all possibilities on what could cause this but i still found nothing. I then nuked my minecarft (Deleted .minecraft to start over like new) And restarted but that did not even work. I then tried resource packs but that did not work as well.

I would think that those 2 potions would kind of contradict eachother, why would you want to put on a blindness effect and then make one to see through the blindness?

Its to make a horror map so its going to be dark and this effect would give you a small range of light you can see. For example

This is whats happens with both effects
http://i62.tinypic.com/157f8k3.jpg

But this happens to me
http://i58.tinypic.com/1zof3g5.jpg

On the first image its both blindness and night vision effect applied and the second is the same but my screen goes all black. I want to fix this so i can make a horror map with the small amount of vision you get with both blindness and night vision.
(I hope this adds up on what im trying to do now. and why i want to fix this)

Milk? You're trying to make the blindness potion NOT make you blind. Isn't exactly smart.

Your missing the point here. Blindness and night vision gives you a small area with light to see but for some people the screen just goes completely black...

NavyPenguinSome things that may cause you to experience the black screen and your friend to not are...

- Resource packs
- Different video settings (Probably this one, I think fast and fancy graphics would do this)
- I know you said vanilla, but one of you may have Optifine installed

No resource pack is being used.
I started changing video settings (Nothing Worked)
I tested with and without Optifine (Nothing Worked)

When you have night vision and blindness together, it's supposed to do that. Why not just use a night vision command for when someone's holding a torch?
