Minecraft 1.7.2 Error?
When I go to "Multiplayer" on my client, it shows the servers as this :

Check the time on your computer. The client makes SSL connections and if your system time is wrong it wont make the connection. also make sure your client isnt being blocked by your firewall.
As a connectivity test, can you connect to us.oc.tc?
If not, we'll want to look at a HijackThis log.

When I try to directly connect it literally just says "Connecting to server". Also, I have added an exception for JAVA, yet it still fails.
See if ur pc is connected to the internet
( It probably is because u posted this, but u might have posted it from ur smartphone/tablet? )
See if java is blocking the internet connection
Usually when u click on multiplayer a java pop-up can be seen in the toolbar. If it is not there, then this is probably not the case.
Test if u can join servers directly, if u can't do that then it is a problem with ur java blocking the internet connection or your internet isn't working.
