No Minecraft,jar

Guys Hey, I am having trouble with Mod Installing because I was trying to install Smart Moving mod, But I need to go to .minecraft/bin/minecraft.jar but when I open my bin folder it is empty, I need my minecraft.jar folder to install most mods so can someone please help me on how to fix it or how it happend, I think I might of accidently deleted it while installing a mod before..

Also, if you are editing your jar to install mods, you are doing it wrong(unless its specified that you need to by the mod author).
