What do you guys think will happen with Java Edition? I personally think that at some point Bedrock will be the only version of minecraft supporting updates and that Java will not be updated anymore. Bedrock at the moment isn’t available for MacOS or Linux but once it is (hopefully at least for MacOS since i’m a Mac user) I feel that many players that aren’t modders, or redstoners will switch to bedrock due to it’s outstanding performance, causing Java to lose popularity. Let’s see what awaits!

I don't think so. I like Bedrock for its cross-platfomr compatibility, but there are too many issues (for me) on Bedrock. No reliable redstone, when it comes to in-game machanics, and I'm not a fan of the marketplace to be honest. As a creator, I like, that you can make money off of things you build, but I also like the 'free' approach Java has, with websites like this one. Then there's also the in-game feel. Controls feel clunky, and unnecessarily complex. Java is responsive, and snappy. Bedrock feels like Windows Vista in comparison. It's got a ton of features, but it's slow. Maybe that's also down to having to make everythign cross-platform compatible. It's too much for a single game.

On the other hand, you don't need mods for a lot of things on Bedrock. You can create custom mobs, models, and entity behavior in-game, which is a feature I sorely miss in Vanilla Java to be honest. To me, it seems like Bedrock is treated as the experimental version of the game, whereas Java is tried, and trusted. I haven't gone much into making Servers on bedrock, but if it's not as feature-rich as the Java experieince is, I'm out. From a programmer's perspective, Java is amazing.

I personally feel that even if Java edition is discontinued, I will still play it. And not even dump $7 on bedrock. I mean, features wise, bedrock is only slightly inferior, missing a few nice things like quasi-connection, but its deficient command/datapack system is dissapointing. And the presense of microtransactions is insulting. As long as Mojang leaves the minecraft.deb download on its website/ the Ubuntu repositories don't remove minecraft-launcher, and my Mojang accou- wait, microsoft account, they're migrating, right, remains usable, I'll keep playing Java and only Java.

I am personally hoping that je will stay the dominant version of Minecraft, I play on Mac too and I just like JE better!

This would not be a good move at all. A majority of minecraft players are on Java edition, mainly on servers. The majority on Bedrock most likely play singleplayer as pvp in a portable device is hard to maneuver/pvp in.

Its not available because Microsoft is controlling the minecraft franchise and Apple and them are basically enemies. Related lawsuit onto why Apple wont accept Microsoft's minecraft

Everyone already knows about Bedrock's "outstanding performance" due to its optimisation. But a lot of those people play on servers which utilise these mods (plugins). The server Hypixel, exclusive to Java edition has 100k players at peak times, while the featured popular servers in Bedrock Edition have around 5-10k players iirc at peak times in Bedrock edition.
Theres also a reason big servers like Mineplex and Hypixel hasnt ported nearly everything/stopped attempting to port their servers to bedrock.
Also this server which uses the maximum capabilities of minecraft basically to the max is not able to exist on Bedrock

Additionally, the "outstanding performance" of Bedrock Edition is usually redundant as most Java players would have computers with at least 40+ fps in Minecraft which is already very playable in singleplayer.

Bedrock's "outstanding performance
About that... Performance is *not* outstanding from a player perspective, compared to Java, at least in my experience. Controls feel spongy to me, but that might be down to being very much used to Java, which I've been playing for years now. The beautiful thing about Java edition, as you said is, that most people have a computer that can more than support 40+ fps. The game is amazing in 144Hz. Bedrock, for some reason is still choppy on the same system.

Hypixel hasnt ported nearly everything/stopped attempting to port their servers to bedrock
Probably, because they wrote a ton of custom plugins, which they spent years perfecting Hypixel is still on 1.8 Afaik, and Bedrock doesn't exactly use Java like JE does, which (to me) is a migrane of its own, and probably to them too. Why put all this work into something that's not nearly as profitable? They're doing well as they are already, and Bedrock is such a small market in comparison.
