Minecraft keeps crashing

So here's the deal
I upgraded my system from Windows XP to Windows 7
I could play minecraft 1.7.10 and 1.8 normally on Windows XP, but on Win7 it just keeps crashing.
I've looked through many forums but they all say the same: My graphics card doesn't support the newer versions; How come on WinXP it worked?
