I would like to see 1.8 in action, but my MineCraft is extremely laggy. 50fps to 0fps to 6 to 10 etc. Help?

lock your framerate at 60. if that doesn't help, try 45. If still not, 30.

Yeah just check for memory leaks
i'm suffering from a similar problem. the frame rate is really high, typically 30-40 fps most of the time now (used to be 15-20fps without optifine). but quite a lot of the time the fps drops or stops for an instant, causing gameplay to 'stutter'. sometimes its so bad that minecraft crashes wish i could help you, but it looks like a lot of us are in the same boat im afraid. my guess is we'll just have to put up with it for now until the next snapshot, either that or until optifine updates. sorry i can't be of any help. :/

Uh studio xps on windows 7
Make sure you don't have a memory leak. I'd suggest making sure you're using 1GB and putting your settings down. Don't forget to turn VBOs on and turn off VSync.
