I've been having trouble with Minecraft. Whenever I try to open it, the icon pops up in my bar and then immediately closes. The only way to get it to work is by deleting the app and its' folder and then redownloading it. This is really not optimal, as that means every time I play, I have to log in again, make a new installation, and change my controls. And whenever I play the next time, I need to drag out any screenshots or resource packs I'm using. Does anybody know what I can do? I've tried restarting my laptop, clearing my cache, and I have 7.78 GB free.

Have You Tried using another launcher such as MultiMC?
I had a similar issue on my older pc: the storage didn't have enough space
Your OS may not be supported or outdated.
A fix that worked for me was to to open task manager and end all my Minecraft related background processes

Thanks for the advice! My OS is 10.11.6, the El Capitan update. This started happening last week. I will try multimc.
You can try using another launcher, like MultiMC.
