Minecraft 1.6 launcher wont work on my computer
So MC 1.6 comes out July 1 and for the new update Mojang has a new Minecraft launcher. I tried to download the launcher for the pre-release and it wont work I'm not sure why. Please Help

Now it telling me there is a bug that makes it incompatible with OSX.
I figured it out!
Open the launcher
go to edit profile
select 1.6.1
login
Open the launcher
go to edit profile
select 1.6.1
login
Works
This is the error it gives me

I have the same problem and i have set it to 1.6.1 and it still says this.
Just been tweeted that no one can login to minecraft at the moment because Amazon is having issues, So that may be a factor

It works for me but 1.5.2 on the new launcher is really laggy

Step 1: Ok so launch the new launcher and click on "Edit Profile"
Step 2: Change the dropdown menu to "Use Latest Version" Or the version you want.
Step 3: Click "Save Profile"
Step 4: Then click "Play"
Step 5: If it fails to load again, Go to Windows 7: Search for: %appdata% If you have a different type of computer reply with the type.
Step 6: Go to ".minecraft"
Step 7: Go to "versions"
Step 8: Go to the version you selected, If you selected Latest version then go to the latest version.
Step 9: It should show 2 files "<Version>.jar" And "<Version>.json Replace Version with the version you choose.
Step 10: Right click "<Version>.jar" and select "Copy"
Step 11: Go back to .minecraft and go to the "bin" folder then delete the "minecraft.jar" in there.
Step 12: Then right click and say "paste"
Step 13: Rename "<Version>.jar" to "minecraft.jar"
Then launch the normal minecraft launcher and see if it works.Well my computer is crap so I only have 2 GB RAM ill try to set it to 1

What does "won't work" mean? That is a very general way of describing your problem.
Does the launcher launch?
If so, does the game launch?
If not, then does the development log of the new launcher show anything?
If it does, then please attach it, else we really do not know what to make of your issue.
When I pressed play it said invalid memory access and then it said "The application Minecraft quit unexpectedly"
That means it could not gather the correct amount of RAM. Did you set it to launch with more than 1GB? (Its ok if you did but your computer may not be able to handle more than 1 GB. 1GB is just the default)
When you start the launcher just click "Edit Profile". And then Check "JVM Arguments" Then change "1" to the amount of RAM you want in GBs.
I would try 1GB first then 2 or if you know how much your computer can handle then you do it.

Just use MVC instead of Downloading New Launcher It Works Fine That Way
My minecraft can actually work on swapping launchers without downloading. I h=don't have a minecraft account, but I got minecraft off of a USB. I can download freely and I don't have to do anything.

Ok, It should be like a CMD Prompt just wait and yeah then login.
Are you talking about installing the pre-release 1.6 snapshot? If so, you should look on youtube how to configure it in case you may have done something wrong.
It wont work for me too
fist of all the thing is a pre-release there for experimental its got bugs.

Maybe when the full release comes out you'll have better luck. If not I suggest contacting Mojang.
he is right you proably should email them or send a tweet to mojang support I use that with my twitter account because they reply in about 2-3 days
