Hey Guys,
So my minecraft has been fine, until i left it for the last few days to play skyrim on the ps3. No updates and no new mods have been added nor has nothing changed with my pc.
Yesterday i wanted to play a singleplayer with my husband, and it started to get laggy and then it said shutting down internal server and a message came up saying minecraft has ran out of memory.
I have looked around and found what i thought was fixes, but nothing has worked so far. The game is unplayable. I have removed mods and tried to play, and this doesnt work, ive gone on multiplayer and its been fine, but singleplayer wont work.
Has anyone else had this? Has anyone got any suggestions? How do i fix it? I have done the allocating more memory and changing the notpad to .bat etc but when i click it, it opens and closes straight away, so i dont know if that is normal?
Any help would be great and thanks in advance x

Try to force update. Open the launcher, click "Options", "Force Update", then "Done", and log in. This redownloads the client jar files.

i'd suggest increasing the java cache size and increasing the ram allocated to minecraft via batch file
you can increase the cache size by going into the control panel then to java then to settings under temporary internet files then pushing the slider for the disk space to the right
as for the batch file, you open a notepad put this code in
@ECHO OFF
"C:\Program files\Java\jre7\bin\java.exe" -Xmx6144M -Xms6144M -XX:MaxPermSize=2048m -jar minecraft.exe
exit note: this code is set to use 6gb of ram and 2gb for maxpermsize my computer has 10gb of ram, adjust accordinglyanyways, click save as then at the bottom "save as type" change to "all files" then type for the name Run.bat (name it w/e just make sure you add .bat at the end) and put this batch file in with the minecraft.exe file and run it (i have them placed in a folder in my documents and a shortcut to the batch on my desktop - in case your a neat freak like me )
if that Does Not work then the next best thing would probably be to A: update java and B: erase your .minecraft folder out of appdata
I use the Magic Launcher which is absolutely Top Notch.
Lol.
Okay, here's a few things you can do:
-Run your anti-virus program.
-Delete and re-install minecraft.
-Try force updating minecraft a few times.
-Clear your cookies with CCLeaner. (CCLeaner)

i tried all of the above until i worked it out but thanks!!
I don't know exactly. But I would recommend when opening minecraft pressing force update when logging in. This clears your bin folder or something like that. If this does not work copy your bin folder save the copy somewhere safe in case of problems and delete your current bin folder in your minecraft.jar, However if this doesn't work your computer may just be out of memory and need to either delete unwanted junk or add more RAM or memory. I hope this helped. Good luck!

as an alternative reach-around I forgot to mention... you could install the techniclauncher. it can run your vanilla minecraft, and it's a separate directory so if you can't get the cache cleared right away, you can still play
I again, have tried that before... It doesn't really do anything once you've run out of memory... it just kind of prevents running out of memory if you can get your game to run.
It works for me! MC used to allocate 8% of my memory. Now its 100%
Yea... I've had this a few times, and a lot of the solutions online don't work... and you may be thinking to un-install and re-install... but no... that doesn't do anything either for some reason... what you need to do is clear the game's cache... which doesn't necessarily mean delete all your worlds and texture packs and mods... don't ask me HOW to clear the cache... because I can only seem to find out how to do it when I actually have to find it, and until then the directory to it just kind of hides from me... sorry I couldn't help, but at least I could give you a good start!
So this gave me a short fix, but i finally worked it out and where i was going wrong i know know how to allocate my ram to my minecraft!!
go looking at video settings ot increase your pc's ram
