Hello, im currently going to be opening a MC server, Me and my cousin are :Trying: to work on the map and get plugins sorted out on my person PC before we buy a host or a VPN.

I cant seem to get my Portforwarding situation done.
Here are some screenshots, btw: My friend cant connect through the IP i give him though IP Chicken or my Default gateway IP.

First image is under the "Virtual Servers" tab on the router website.

It said that the port 25565 is closed when i ran my server.

Also would i had it to the Virtual Servers tab or the Port Forwarding tab?

In the first image, the check box is not checked.

Also, use http://www.yougetsignal.com/tools/open-ports/ to check to make sure the ports are open properly. Have the server running when you run this test. This also gives you your external IP, if you didn't already have it.

Ok so im using my ipv4 address to portforward and then giving them the IpChicken ip.
Still does not work.

I tried what dunem666 and doing UDP and TCP and not both, still no help.

Any more?

I made this a long time ago, but I hardly ever get to reference it.

Find your router, select for Minecraft.

1. Connect to your router using the standardgateway: default is 192.168.1.1 (type it in your browser)
2. portforward your IPv4 and add the port 25565
3. get No-Ip
4. Set No-ip up and give your friend the No-Ip adress.

The IP should be your public IP, not private

no?
thats determined by your router / hub, you can't set a public IP on your network adapter because your router has the DHCP.

Only on a VPS server will you be able to do this.

Hold CTRL+R and type cmd and open a command prompt.

type..

ipconfig /all

check what your physical address is.... put that address as your serverip.

as long as you have BOTH TCP and UDP forwarded to that ip too, it will work....

Still failing?
Check your Windows Firewall.

your doing it wrong.

1.Instead of adding the port forward for "both" TCP and UDP....
2. Most routers require you to make a separate one for each....one for TCP and one for UDP, dont ask why but many other have this issue too.

3.Make sure your sever is hosted to IP 127.0.0.1

Vpn? Virtual private network? I think you mean Vps and make sure you get a static Ip that could be your problem
also make sure the ip your connecting to is the one you get when you type my ip in your browser followed by the port.
I.e
1.1.1.1.1.1:25565
