So I am going to build a desktop computer for a 4h project and was wonderring if I could use it to host my MC server. I am renting it now. I di not know that specs yet sorry. Also is it better to run a BIG server with everything on it. Or a group of SMALL servers like one has a different game in it.

Thanks in advance.

Buy a VPS and host a server, hosting from your PC isn't a great idea.
If you do host from your PC a small vanilla server will be about as far as you get with to much lag, cpu use or ram.

Using the computer for ONLY hosting the minecraft server?
That could work but it would slow down your internet and has little to no point.

Ok thanks you for your answer. What about the big or multiple servers.

That's what I'm here for.
You should buy a VPS server and set it up with the help of tutorials for a server that will be able to hold +20 people and run +40 plugins if that's what you're aiming for.
Although running a server isn't all that it's cut out to be, it's a competitive game and you wont be making much money.
On a standard computer you should be able to run bukkit with a few plugins and be able to play when you want (not sure if it could handle 24/7). Though it all boils down to the computer's specs and your bandwidth.

This is my 4th month or renting a server and it seems i never can have everything setup. My first server host was a scam I think though. I tried going to cheep. Company disappeared before I could transfer my files.

I looked at VPS servers and I think I will keep using my Mineraft host. Thanks
