First to get your server liked, you will need plugins. What are plugins you might ask? Plugins are a app in-game that allow the gameplay experience to be modded in good and bad ways for the player, allowing more fun and exciting gameplay. Why are plugins important? Plugins are important due to players wanting to get on a server, be able to be ranks, have fun with different and cool plugins allowing them to have more fun. Why are Vanilla servers not popular? Well a Vanilla server has no mods added to it at all. This means a Vanilla server would be almost the same as being in a singleplayer world. All that is different is that Vanilla servers have switch-able gamemodes and chat. First to get plugins you will want to check out Craft-Bukkits wiki to allow you to be able to download plugins with CraftBukkit. CraftBukkit allows you to mod the game with all of the plugins you would like.

You might wanna start with a banner, some pictures, and some major building within your server. When you build you want to make sure the spawn is neat, nice, and looks appealing. Starting with the banner you will want to find a bannermaker program or website to create your banner. Make sure this banner is eye-grabbing material. You dont want just plain colors to attract people to your server. You want gradient, flashes, and very attracting things on your banner. First I would recommend advertising your server on Planet Minecraft, although this might bring alot of griefers/hackers in it will bring in very dedicated players. You will want to post your pictures along with your PlanetMinecraft post. Make sure to write a good, attracting description of your server.

When people join your server let them play for a while, then rank them up. Do not rank anybody as soon as they join the server, this will lead to fighting between the players because of one person getting a rank and not the other. Keep your Planet Minecraft post updated, update it once a dy to get more players coming. Make sure to keep your server enviroment such as your spawn protected and Safe-Zoned which can be done with factions by typing: /f claim SafeZone. If you have no safezone, then your players will spawn kill. Spawn-Killing is to hard to prevent. If you want No-PVP just disable it within your Serverfiles. Make sure to keep your players interested in whats going on, awake, and having fun within your server. Try to stay away from abusive admins that kill or agrivate the players unfairly. This will lead to many people griefing/leaving your server.
