Try seeing if you are joining with the correct Minecraft version

Do you have ANY Mods Installed? If so You may need to Clean out your .Minecraft folder, do this by going to your %appdata% then deleting your .minecraft. After that Login to your minecraft launcher and simply let it download, I'd reccomend backing up your Servers.dat in your .minecraft folder, then after it's redownloaded put it back into .minecraft. If you've got texturepacks/resource packs just do the same thing.
hope I helped

You can't play the snapshot, you have to play 1.7.2, or whatever the server version is, it tells you on planet minecraft.

Maybe you have outdated Java. Go to http://www.java.com/download/index.jsp and check if you have the latest java for your system. Also you may have the wrong version(32 bit or 64 bit). And what have you done before this has happened?

well one I have a 32 bit computer and I also have the latest version of java, but I'm on a new computer cause my other one is really old and after I downloaded minecraft on the current computer I have everything when okay, so when I tried to join a server it did what I was talking about earlier.

if your password is too long change it to a shorter one.(its optimal at 8-10 characters)

You have been "Hit Off" or DDoSed as other people like to call it. The best way to handle it is to just wait. I hope everything turns out fine.

If you was ddosed, i'm pretty sure you can't use your internet, to go on PMC.....it sounds like a java problem to me, redownload Java, even if you have the newest version.

Go to %appdata% and click "roaming". Go to ".minecraft" and copy the folder "saves" (to save all your singleplayer worlds) and paste it somewhere else. Once done, delete ".minecraft". Then open Minecraft (the shortcut that SHOULD be on your desktop) and click "Play". It will redo everything completely cleaning your Minecraft by making a new ".minecraft" in place of the one you deleted. To re-add your singleplayer worlds, delete the new "saves" folder in the new ".minecraft" and copy the "saves" folder you moved from the previous ".minecraft" and paste it in the new ".minecraft". Back to multiplayer, you should be all good. No 100% guarantees though.

well I have tried to re-download Java and it didn't do anything for it I have seriously looked all over the internet to see if anyone else had the same problem and no one did, so I'm kind of at a dead end. I even tried all the things that didn't have the same situation and it didn't do anything either

Try setting your video options to the lowest settings (like render distance tiny/short and smooth lighting off)

You might be using a cracked account, or Mojang's authorization servers may be having some downtime.

Well one my account is not cracked and this happens all the time so it can't be the authorization servers being down
