Minecraft Won't Install/Minecraft.exe and .msi Can't Launch Minecraft Environment

Hello all! I'm trying to play Minecraft: Java Edition on Windows 7, but I'm having a lot of trouble.


Problem: Running Minecraft.msi and .exe won't install Minecraft. Instead I get an error that the environment couldn't be launched or something and that files might be corrupt and I should reinstall.


What I've Tried: Redownloading files, launching the file as admin (makes windows explorer crash...), and logging into a 2nd admin account on my computer, all with no luck.


Really appreciate any assistance on this issue. Thanks!

TL;DR: Windows 7, Minecraft: Java Edition won't install/launch because the minecraft environment won't launch. I don't know how to fix this. Appreciate any help :)

This is a known bug, use the .exe varient to bypass it.: minecraft.net/en-us/download/alternative/

I suspect something is seriously amiss with your Windows environment. I mean... if Explorer crashes if you simply run a file as admin then something is not right(tm).

You may want to look into that issue first.

Thanks for responding. And yes I did. I downloaded both the minecraft.msi and .exe files from the Mojang website.

try using multimc and see what happens, and send in a support ticket explaining in as much detail as possible to the minecraft/mojang support team

Ok, I have no idea what happened but trying to launch the game through multimc somehow forced the game to (finally) update/download the files, and made java reupdate or something. Either way, it's working now. Wish I knew why though incase someone has a similar problem. Thanks for the help man/woman/etc!

Yeah, I sent in a support ticket today, waiting on that but trying to find another possible solution until then.

I got multimc but it just gets an error "Job 'Download of meta file index.json' failed to process" when I try to launch.

Any other ideas of something to try? Thanks for trying either way :)

if i were to put my finger on something, i would be pointing towards a firewall issue since i doubt your hard drive is 100% full
