Should i delete cookies?
The lag is in the man screen too just saying.
did you try dumping the cookies to clean up the hard drive a bit? That should improve the lag.
actually defragging can help, but only to make things load faster
Only set your render distance to multiples of 8, or 4.
Its on the lowest it can go
http://www.piriform.com/speccy download it, run it and then let us actually help you
I Have played MINECRAFT Many times on this computer in the past.
Can you pull some of your computer's specs off of DxDiag (such as your processor and memory) as post them here? I'm using a Lenovo B570 laptop from 2011 and it does okay with Optifine installed (although I can't record videos well), but there are many computers out there that simply can't handle Minecraft at all.
Of course, you could also restart your computer and see what happens from there. If you ever get an error or crash message when loading a Minecraft world, be sure to post those logs here as well.

this wont fix his problem, MC nowadays runs on a separate java install from your main one that mojang always keeps up to date (they got tired of waiting for people to update).spartynateI Do have optifine and that does not help.
have you lowered your video settings?
In minecraft? if so yes.

have you lowered your video settings?
Step 1, close down all unnecessary background programs like spotify, steam / (origin), skype, y'know what I mean
Step 2, lower Minecraft settings, WITHOUT optifine. It's just another background process for your processor to handler, and it sounds like it's kinda bad. There's plenty of tutorials out there of how to do it, just google "how to lower your minecraft settings"
Step 3, if you get all the way here, I'd say get a new computer..

What are you actual specs though. How much RAM do you have, CPU, etc. Do you have 64 bit windows or 32 bit? If you have 64 bit do you have it configured to use more than 1gb of RAM? Are you loading too many chunks, monsters, etc at one time causing lag? Is this online of single player?
Im on a 64 bit im on 3 chunks, at the begging when the game loads and it is at the screen where it says singleplayer and multiplayer i will put my mouse over singleplayer and it takes like 5 to 10 seconds to turn dark to tell me im over it then when i load a world i can't really move its so bad.

What are the specs of your computer. Sometimes there can be bugs or problems causing large lag. Worst case is your pc just can't run it
Don't underestimated Optifine. It boosted my 35fps average to 180fps.
And don't overestimate it. If I remember correctly they do clean up some code but the biggest part of it is allowing the user to use multiple cores. If the user doesn't have them in the first place it will do very little in comparison.
As stated above, you could use Optifine to increase your FPS, although I don't think it will boost 5FPS to a playable amount.
Try first lowering your settings to the fastest possible, but that probably won't get you anywhere.
What will help however, is if you install Optifine. Do that and lower the settings, you can tell which is fastest by hovering over the option. It will give a short description of what the setting does, and how it changes performance. Of course, choose the "fastest" options on anything and everything until you get your desired FPS.
