so, a few days ago I updated my ubuntu engine to the newest version of ubuntu (18.4) shortly after, the minecraft launcher stopped working. what is funny is that 10 minutes before i just had closed the minecraft game and had launched the game 20 minutes ago. so, i launched the game (when it worked) played for ten minutes, then got off. Then ten minutes pass and i try to relaunch the game and this is the output. I tried reinstalling the game, changing java settings, nothing worked.

Do you have the option to set your computer back to before the Ubuntu update with a backup, if that solves the problem you should report it as a bug to minecraft so they can solve it.
i think it was the launcher, i found a more "ubuntu friendly" launcher in the ubuntu software base and it works fine.
