Whenever I download a mod and put it into my mods folder it never works ever what am I doing wrong? Thanks

modloader mods you have to put it in the version jar and forge mods put it in the mods folder
You're not supposed to move it into your mods folder. You must drag and drop the mod files into 1.7.4.jar. (or whatever version the mod is for)

It depends on the mod. Most ML/Forge/BL mods use the mods folder.
