More GB?

Hello, I need anyone's knowledge on this subject and if there is anything I can do to fix the issue.

I am running a Minecraft server and I want people to be able to log in and enjoy the map as I fix a few things before the real release. However, there is an extraordinary amount of lag.

I assume that the lag comes from the map itself. The map is a whopping 14.1 GB. Will getting more GB help reduce the lag drastically, or is the map doomed to lag forever? I was thinking of getting at least 16 GB.

P.S: I am using Minecraft Pro Hosting. Which plan do you recommend for this gigantic map?

Plugins seem to be fine too.
However I suggest doing the same thing when you notice lag.
Also please check your current /tps and doi the same when you experience lag.

Currently, what plan do you use?
https://mcprohosting.com/plans?reset=1#/name?plans=mc

Also do you let others user worldedit? this tends to give servers lag, even dedicated servers have this. It's recommended to get this plugin for that reason.

The lag seems to have dwindled a lot since yesterday.

I use bukkit for 1.8.7.
I have only 3 plugins at the moment, world edit, dynmap, and essentials for 1.8+. The lag was there before the dynmap plugin was installed, though. No players yet, we are still whitelisted.

craftBukkit 1.8.7?

I suggest you use timings to pin point what causes this.
First enable this in your bukkit.yml file.

set this
plugin-profiling: false
to this
plugin-profiling: true

Join your server and type /timings reset
and after a while, 10 minutes should do type /timings merged

Now upload whatever text you got from this file
\server\timings\timings.txt

Into a code here.

Ready to be shocked than ? Lag can come from many things, the last thing that causes it is the map imho. If you experience lag and use spigot, you may want to look into this. https://www.spigotmc.org/wiki/timings/

But really, give us some more information.

What version of minecraft do you use (spigot bukkit cauldron ftb)
plugins?
how many players?
