Mouse and keyboard disconnecting while playing minecraft

I've been playing minecraft with a group of friends on a shockbyte server recently and a recurring problem that I experiece has come back again. When playing the game my mouse and keyboard will both periodically disconnect and whatever buttons I was pressing get stuck being held down until they decide to reconnect, (I'm sure you can already understand how this is a big issue when exploring places like the nether and end). I've looked on multiple forums to find an answer but they are all either long dead or don't really seem to apply to my issue. I have no clue what causes this and it doesnt seem to occur in single player worlds from what I can tell although I rarely play singleplayer in this game. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
