ok so i made a server and i have no trouble logging into at at 10.0.0.123 however when i entered it on the minecraft site it says it is offline, am i using the wrong ip and is it truley offline? can someone please help me

Just put for you to join type for IP as Localhost and for others type the IP then add :25565 at the end for other ppl
www.portforward.com is all the key (If you still need help look up how to make a port-forwarded minecraft server)

ok so everything is set up and my external ip would be 101.172.103.88:25565 try to connect.
YOU use the internal server IP, you give OUT the external IP. (with the port forward)

if you take the 3 minutes it will take to read Zaphod's guide, it will tell you how to find your EXTERNAL IP address, the one that you need to give people to log into your server.
ive read it and i have my external adress, but if you took 3 minutes to read my last post you would discover that the server wont run on it.
Press CTRL+SHIFT+ESC and then go to the processes tab. End process / delete anything called 'java'. Now run the server again.

is the server on the same computer you play minecraft on? if so just launch minecraft and in where it ask's for the IP for the server just type localhost everyone else will need the ip but u wont
hi yeah it lets me connect when i write local host, but i still dont know what IP to give to other people. when i run the server on my IP i would find on whatsmyip.org with the port 25565 it says "cannot bind the port" perhaps a server is already running on this port" and i did that by adding a IP address to the server.properties file

That is your local ip, no-one can connect to it. Please stop spamming the forums. I have already posted a link to a step by step guide that answers all your questions on how to set up a server.
im confused because the ip im giving out is the static IP, i cant connect to the server if i use my IP from whatismyip.org or something, so which one should be the one to give out to people?
