can someone tell me how to make a free minecraft server

The software is open source and can be found at http://minecraft.net or is you wish to use server mods (plugins) http://bukkit.org you can run it on your own computer which would be fine for a few friends assuming your port forward. In the long run it is recommended you use a GSP (game service provider)
From what I have heard (because I don't go on servers myself), you can't make a free Minecraft Server. You need money. Plus, it takes alot of hard work to mantain a server.
