basically I'll be doing a singleplayer mine-craft series, I don't want to do vanilla though...
is there a series of mods that work with each-other you can recommend me that would be interesting? (aether etc. for example)
either link me to a great mod-pack or just tell me the mods I could use for this series, you'll get a free shout-out on my YouTube channel!
basically, new blocks anything like the aether, or the aether itself and new weapons etc are what I'm looking for...new mobs. all that good stuff.
I have 16GB DDR4 COrsair Vengance ram, so I'm good for any mod like GLSL shaders or whatever. (anything ram-hogging)

The yogbox? Hack/Mine? Technic/Tekkit? All part of the totally-separate-from-the-vanilla-Minecraft-launcher in the Technic launcher, so no worries of screwing your .exe or .jar up. Look them up.
ahh yeah just afraid of having loads of them only to discover they become outdated in like 2 weeks... (1.5) or I mess up my minecraft as they aren't compatible...
Well, you could always not update. xD Anyway, have I helped you at all? And for the machines and whatnot, you just need a good teacher is all.
Eh, you might have quite a hard time finding that. What you could do though, is make your own modpack. Well, not necessarily make, more of add mods to your vanilla Minecraft rather.
EDIT: There is a Better World Generation mod though. It contains Sky Worlds, and Cave Worlds. I thought it was awesome. You could also start with Mo' Creatures, definitely a cool mod there.

thanks very much bod, but all that complicated machinery garb....just doesn't work with me it took me half an hour to figure out how to make a quarry once...not so good.

Heard of Tekkit and Feed The Beast? They're basically the leading modpacks right now. Both of the launchers have multiple modpacks, each with a different amount of mods. I only play the Technic Launcher as of now, not sure if I'll ever use FTB again. Not any specific reason, I just prefer the Technic Pack.
But I'd consider looking at some modpacks in the Technic launcher definitely. Voltz is unique and fun, but there is also a Universal Electricity pack in FTB also. The two are very similar. I have been livestreaming Voltz and find it fun. Although, I don't think there is anything like GLSL in any modpack. Sorry :L
