Need help making a server!

Hi im going to make a minecraft city called Little Minecraftia and im not sure i can pull it off by myself and would like to make a server where my freinds and other people can help if they want, but i've tried hamachi and all that stuff and its just to comlicated for me to comprehend, is there any way to quickly and easily make a server WITHOUT hamachi, that has a whitelist, is vannila, can easily import and export things with MCedit and, im 100% serious, free? i know thats kinda alot but is there any chance thats possible, i really need help. thnx
