İ need help to open a friends server! Help!

Me and my friend started hosting a server. İt was hosted on my friends computer.
He went afk for a few hours or days and he left the server open. İ was trying to restart the server because there was so much lag. But i accidently stopped the server.
İ know my friends ip address and he has the port 25565 (tcp) open but firewall is blocking.
İs there a way i can pass the firewall and open the server?
Oh also is this legal?
