Need help setting up private server

me and some friends couldnt figure out the lan so we started our own server (the downloadable one from the minecraft website) and so when we start it, it opens up and then crashes. what could we have done wrong? and how do we fix it?

It does not crash, you have to agree the EULA in the files.
