I need Minecraft server commands!

Me and my friend are having a challenge of who can make the best server.
I want it to be plain and simple but I need some commands! Where do i put the commands BTW If willing to help please list things like /msg /set home etc.

Where do you put the commands? 4real? Play some minecraft first before making a minecraft server...
