My overworld will render to whatever max render distance I set the game to, but my nether caps out at about 13 chunks for some reason. This is not my computer struggling. It does the same regardless of how much stuff is going on. I've tried in several normal worlds and a skyblock. Its really annoying because its making it really hard to find a nether fortress. I have tried on 1.14.4 and 1.15.2, they give the same result.
How can I fix this?

Is that something I can do myself? And if so, where can I find those settings?
Some of thse settings are available from the main minecraft menu under the 'Video Settings' button.
Some of them he talks about are only available if you add optifine which you can obtain from here :
https://optifine.net/downloads
Extra options then appear under the 'Video Settings' button.
** Caution when using optifine - your game may develop some un-anticipated weirdness. Difficult to explain, you have to see it to understand. However, some versions are more stable than others and give no problems at all.
