New MC Online Player Seeks Advice
Hello all,
Hope all is well with you, I've just started playing online after buying the game and its very overwhelming and I don't even know where to start. I've tried jumping into a few servers but I only ended up running around not knowing anything trying to do basic survival and I could tell it wasn't the right way. I've read on a lot of things but I think I just need some advice from someone who's more experienced in MC online, I just have a few questions.
1. Do I have to install any mods or anything else to make sure I can get the full experience out of the servers? ex. for factions or magic or things of that nature?
2. I know what kind of server I want but I don't know how to find it, I'm looking for a vanilla-ISH pvp kind of place. Where there's still survival and house building involved similar to the regular minecraft but I wanted factions and maybe arena tournament events where I can challenge others to duels and mini games. Being able to get raided by surprise and defending turf is something I enjoy (*Old WoW Player*) and economies and shops and things like that appeal to me also. Anything that can hold the feel of minecraft but make it more immersive. Hope this paints a picture for you, how practical is this? and does anyone know of a server(s) like this?
3. Is there anything else I NEED to know in order to function online in MC? keep in mind that I'm a complete noob to online and Ive played single player and lan lines with friends completely before trying online. No mods, no textures, nothing. I've only just started expanding my minecraft knowledge beyond gameplay.
I really want to play online and so many servers look so cool but I feel like I need a real breakdown/crash course on how to play online properly and how to go about finding the right places for myself and what the correct protocols are when I do to thrive in these communities and in game.
If there's anything else you feel I should know about online play (I know NOTHING!) plz tell me, I'm grateful for it

1. You can install some texture packs to make it look better. There is a mod called Tekkit that is very hard to learn, but its fun. Tekkit has its own servers
2. You are probably looking for a Survival PVP server.
3. If you plan on going on a PVP server, watch your back, and be VERY careful on who you choose to trust. People tend to not be as friendly as you thought they were.
