I made a server through the download on Minecraft.net. But nobody can connect. I heard about port-forwarding and I am pretty sure I did it correctly, but still no one can connect. I have the IP and I can connect but my friend said "Could not connect to the server" popped up. And ideas on the problem?

To help you out here's what my Netgear setup looks like

The router will allow connections on any port from external start to external end and will send traffic to the internal IP between internal start and internal end

The way you port forward varies from router to router, but in general the steps are as follows:
1. Log into your router's web based control panel
2. Locate the section in the control panel about port forwarding
3. Forward the port you are using for your server to your internal IP
4. Be sure to save

I have a sagem fast 1704 Windstream router. I went onto the port forwarding thing and typed 25565 into the port. And put my Local IP into external and internal port. I guess I should google and put that IP for the IP.

Do you know how to port forward? if you do, could you tell me how in the dumbest way possible?

google "my ip" and you will get the ip you should give your friend. If that doesn't work, something is likely wrong with your port forwarding.

Is the ip you gave your friend your internal ip or external ip?

Well, I don't know, I just went into my control panel and typed ipconfig. Then give my IPV4 address.

That will give you a local (private) IP which only works behind your router. So go to google type "my ip" and hit search, your public IP will be at the top of the results in bold.
