Offline Mode: How to Fix?
Hi,
I've had a server for about a year now and I recently noted that its been getting hacked. I realized that my admins and staff have been telling me that it is a cracked server. I understand that having it in offline mode makes it essentially [i]cracked.[i]
So, your probably right now like, [i]Why don't you just change it to online-mode=true, Stupid.[/i] Well, thats because I can't. Whenever I do that, and someone logs in, it says for them , "Failed to verify Username." Can Someone please help me find a way to fix that? I have Norton, so if its a firewall problem, it would be very kind to tell me how to allow it. So far (this may have been dumb but I thought it may have did something) I had tried allowing the main CraftBukkit file in the firewall, but thats not working.
And no, this IS a official account I bought straight from Minecraft's website. Its not hacked or anything.
Please help me fix this!

you cant the people that get that msg dont have a premium minecraft account. they downloaded a cracked version of minecraft if you will. if you change the setting to true people with cracked mc clients cant join your server
I know that, but I need a way to fix it so that I can set it to Online mode.
Ive done research on it myself and have came up with nothing for awhile now. Dont think there is fix for it.If there was i dont think anyone would spend the money to buy the game. Good luck though maybe youll find something I didnt.

That's because your server had trouble connecting to the Minecraft Authentication servers. Make sure your server has an internet connection and the client you are connecting from is premium and has authenticated with Mojang. How many times have you tried connecting?
Also, make sure your /etc/resolv.conf is pointed to good, solid DNS servers. Google's are good to use (8.8.8.8, or 8.8.4.4)

I have a very good internet connection, and from what I know, it is a premium account because I bought the account from the website and haven't hacked it or anything.
I tried connecting usually about 10 times because I will recognize that i'm not getting anywhere. And what do you mean by DNS...? (really sorry I am a bit new to certain things) I've heard that term used before. Can you help instruct me how to find out if my DNS is good or what-not, please? And is the DNS probably the reason that my server is like that...?

Alright, install http://dev.bukkit.org/bukkit-mods/authme/.
Keep it in offline mode. Make sure your staff get on before randoms log in as them.

What operating system are you using to host the server on? Windows? Mac? Linux?
I run the server on my PC. And I play on my PC.

If you want to stay cracked, I suggest getting the AuthMe plugin.
It will set a password for all usernames. For example, if your Minecraft username (cracked OR premium) is lets say themrkitty, when you first join the server after installing AuthMe, it will ask you to register. After you have registered by typing
/register [password here] [password here again], it will force the account "themrkitty" to login the next time he joins the server, which means it will require the account to type in /login [yourpassword].
But make sure to de-op all your staff members before installing AuthMe due to the fact that some players may register an admin's account and therefore they may be using that admin's account and they will have access to all commands and they may grief.
As for grief you should get the CoreProtect plugin. I highly recommend this. I have it on my own server. If you get griefed, simply PM me or Skype me (notjohnreyes is my Skype) and I will help you fix the grief. But be warned, you must have the CoreProtect plugin installed before the actual grief happened.
