I am assuming you are using the Vanilla minecraft launcher. This suggestion below might seem like a learning experience, its well worth it, and MultiMC is a very good launcher, it'll make your setup much easier. Problem with the Vanilla launcher is that many files become duplicated in the same folders leading to one version of MC overwriting another version giving issues like the one you describe in your post. Setting up multiple versions in MultiMC is very easy - even alpha and beta versions..

You could try using an alternative minecraft launcher called MultiMC which is available here : https://multimc.org/
Easy to set up. Install it, open it, right-click on the window, choose create instance, choose your MC version, click ok, add a minecraft
account via the settings / accounts and away you go - usually takes a minute or two at most. Excellent for modded as well as Vanilla. MultiMC takes care of installing Forge with a single click.

Here is a small document (open with Wordpad) showing how to install Forge in MultiMC on one of your Minecraft instances :

I mean, the OP could use MultiMC if they wanted to, but like I mentioned below, his/her computer's CPU and GPU are over a decade old. Using alternate software like MultiMC isn't going to be helpful at getting Minecraft working until they upgrade their computer/buy a new one.

These OpenGL errors are not always caused by old tech. It can often be a fault with the installation. Because MultiMC creates a completely seperate installation, it's certainly worth a try, not everyone has the money for a new machine.

Seeing that your computer is running Windows 8, it's probably too old to play Minecraft on. Post a DxDiag log here using paste.ubuntu.com so that we can see your PC's specs, and we can double-check though.

Some of your computer's hardware is from 2009, which is far too old for and unsupported by Minecraft. Time for an upgrade!

I poked around a little after taking a good at your log. I found this:

I'm a software engineer, and I thought the problem might be some sort of corrupted preferences/settings/temporary file. I did a little research to find out which files those might be. I settled on options.txt...as the most likely [culprit].

So I deleted [it], and tried to launch Minecraft again. And it worked... These files can be found in the .minecraft folder in %appdata%.

If deleting options.txt doesn't solve the problem, try updating your graphics driver. If that doesn't work, try remove optifiine and re-installing it. Also try launching a vanilla version (e.i. don't launch an optifine version).

If all else fails, you will need a newer graphics card. It can be difficult to install a new graphics card if you don't know what you're doing. It is probably best just to buy a new PC altogether.

Good luck!

Your only other solution is to use an older version.
