Optifine making me lag?!
I just downloaded optifine. I joined a world to try it out, and I was at 40 fps! Without optifine, I run at an average of 150 fps. I looked through my settings, and fixed anything that could be the problem. My max fps was low, so I fixed it. But it's still doing it! Please help!

I'm not sure how it's possible that OptiFine gives you lag, but I have an idea.
What if it's not necessarily OptiFine doing it? Did you have many other apps running?
If not, what about computer space? Several times, I've found myself a bit low on space, and then I can barely have more than one app open without lag.

I didn't have any apps running, and I don't think I'd be low on space because I don't have much on my computer

OptiFine is meant to improve fps, so it's strange that it's giving you lag.

damn you have good fps i get 5 originally and with optifine + resource pack + video settings i get 11~20 normally but in good days, 40. but one time i got 90, which only happened until like 10 seconds.

Well, I used to get around 70 fps
turned out I didn't have java on my computer
