So my server was 3 gb as of last week. Then someone had the idea of running out 100,000 blocks in 2 different directions hence loading 200,000 blocks in a line worth of chunks. Now the file is 8 gb. I know there are tools that remove these chunks from the server files as well as modify the old world and updates unused chunks into newer chunks. Example i preserved my server from 1.1 into 1.2.5. So the chunks that are loaded already don't get updated. anyway of uploading all the chunks that are not inhabited (i am using towny orefuscation dynmap + 47 other plugins). Basically i am looking for a method in which it can automatically detect chunks with no inhabitants and reload them into new chunks.

yeah so unfortunately there is little more i can suggest, perhaps there is some bukkit plugin you could use, or as a temp fix use world edit using //chunk and //set 0. just remember to only do it in the places you don't want, i suggest using the world edit CUI mod http://wiki.sk89q.com/wiki/WorldEdit/Client_addon

you could just give the server a temp map while you fix the issues, treat them to a little creative time while you fix, understanding users wont mind.

thats what i thought. because the file was expanded to over 7gb it takes almost a day to upload the file back. Takes almost 5 hours to download.

yeah i have my server hosted, use the hosts back up facility to make the world into a zip file, then download it onto your local pc

Alternately a good host should have given you FTP details, then use filezilla (or any other FTP program) to download the world folder that has been affected

Okay so mcedit i believe requires me to have direct control of the server files on my own pc. The issue is that i run my server from a hoster. anyway of using mcedit from my home while files are on the hoster's server?

Firstly i would download MCedit and delete the chunks that were loaded mistakenly, then to prevent it from happening again use world border, this gives the players a spherical playing ground, with permissions for ops/ who ever with correct node to bypass restriction, if you use dynmap it also allows you to see the guarded area, usefull for setting it up. hope this helps for future prevention.
