Private server help/advice

hi just a bitty confused my boyfriend has tried to set a private minecraft server up and he's done everything he can to try get it to work and its not letting anyone on hes tried the whole firewall thing weve searched everything we can.. is there anything weve missed? if so can you make a list? cheers..not great with server stuff aha

Did you remember to portfoward?
Are there any console errors in the minecraft console? if so post them
Post some Screenshots of your setup for the "private minecraft server"
If you arn't using hamchi I would point you that way its really simple to use and safe.
