I need some help, please.
So me and my brother are trying to play on a LAN world together. Neither of us have any mods installed, are using the same version of Minecraft (1.7.2) and are sitting a few feet away from each other.
His world shows up on my Multiplayer screen, but when I try to connect, I get this message:

Failed to connect to the server
java.net.ConnectException: Connection timed out: no further information: /[the ip was shown here]

I don't know if this is an actual problem with 1.7, but we had this in 1.6 too.
Any help would be appreciated.

By any chance, does your world show up on his LAN world as well? or does his only show up on yours?

Ok, so what you wanna do is press windows key and R at the same time.
Then, type cmd into the little box and hit enter. next a black window will appear, here, type ipconfig and look for the following at the top of the page:

Wireless LAN adapter WiFi

Connection-specific DNS Suffix . : home
Link-local IPv6 Address . . . . . . . : *************************
IPv4 Address . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . : ()()()()()()
Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . : *************
Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . . . . : *************

The *** parts are my IP stuff, but you want to look at the ()() part, type this into direct connect (the person connecting to the server) and start an LAN world.
Now, when you start the LAN world, a number will come up EXAMPLE:
123.456.7.89:(THE IMPORTANT BIT WILL BE HERE)
So, the IMPORTANT bit ^ is the bit you type after the ()()()()() bit for the person connecting

~Bob

(let me know if you don't understand a part)

Try my way it should work and if you think the server would make you lag too much then put it on a extra computer

well idk why this is happening but if you just get a server from the site and connect with localhost it should work and if localhost doesnt work then go to the windows button type in cmd then when you are in the command window type ipconfig and find your ip v4 or the default gate way... I havent had to use anything other than localhost for a long time
