I have been very pleased with the Towny plugin, it is powerful and highly customizable. But I would like to know if there was a way to put a gap (sidewalk, border, etc.) between town plots.
Currently if I were to make a new town people could build over the two block wide sidewalk and block it off. Usually they don't but they are still able to.
How can I put a gap between plots?

I realize I could use worldguard to define an area for the sidewalk, but that is a rough and ineffective way of doing it, and I'd only do it if I had no other options. I was wondering if there was a function within towny for it.

You could use Protection plugins, such as World Guard, which enables you to claim an Area where people can't build, and it also allows you to set certain conditions for the claim, such as No fire Spread, no Ice Melt, no Mon Spawning.
Using a protection plugin like World Guard, would also help your towns, as it wouldn't take out of the amount they are allowed to claim.
