1.7.9 Rain Sounds not working PLEASE HELP!

I have played Minecraft for a long time now, and lightning has always crashed my game, so every time I would hear rain, I would immediately do /toggledownfall to stop it. Now that my computer can finally handle lightning, I cannot get my rain sounds to work. I have weather sounds on and the thunder sounds work fine, just not the rain. It is really sad to play the game and not hear the sound I feared to hear when my computer couldn't handle it.
