Raspberry Pi
Hey guys,
I am thinking about buying a RPi (Raspberry Pi) to host a server. I was going to buy the B model and I'll use a 32GB SD card. I'm not sure if it will have enough power to host a server though.
Not sure if this will help, but here is the link to Raspberry Pi's site: http://www.raspberrypi.org/.
Anyone know if it will have the strength to host a server 24/7? And if it could, how many players could it hold roughly?

The raspberry pi will run up to 50 people on a minecraft server if you only want a small server then I'd go ahead with it. Its a great piece of kit in my opinion!
What idiot told you this. There is nooooo way in history you will be able to get 50 ppl on a server with 512 mb!
Hey xXredeemerXx. This is off-topic, but you should buy some block erupotrs and use them raspberry pi to bitmine!
I own a rassberry pi, and i would have to reccomend against it, i tried using it for a server but it just couldnt cope at all. If you do try though, you MUST get an 8 to 10 speed sd card or there is no chance of it working. I just use my rassberry pi and an ultimate pbx device for free voip calls much better use

If you look at this, it comes with a 8gb card.

Well most of those things people usually have. Now that I pretty much have everything but the power adapter.
It's also more than $30 for a pi. After you buy the power adapter, SD card, case, HDMI cable, (maybe even a computer monitor) it will end up being well over $100
I agree no point in wasting $30 for a rpi
if you want to buy a raspberry pi to play with your friends than go for it! definitely not something you should post on PMC because your server is likely to lag with more than a few people on it. ... And definitely go easy on the plugins. maybe only 3 or 4 plugins if any. Probably better off hosting a server from a laptop or something.
More RAM is always better in my Experience. My server has 16GB of ram and runs super smooth 95% of the time.

With only 512MB of ram, no not even close. You can host a few people but not a lot.
If you have too much RAM, does it not make the server slower? Java would just use the RAM then dump it. So, it wouldn't need much.
I don't think it has that amount of power. I wouldn't do it.
