[Help] Reinstalling Java

When I first installed Minecraft, I had 32 bit java. I recently got a prompt on minecraft, telling me to install 64 bit because it could help with the performance (yes I have a 64 bit computer but I had downloaded the 32 on accident and still have it).
Could someone walk me through downloading the 64 bit version and are there any precautions I should take when doing it? (such as backing up worlds or servers?)

Uninstall java 32 bit. Install java 64 bit.
