RTX 2070 performing badly in default worlds without shaders...

My specs are as follows:
Ryzen 5 2600X
16GB 3200MHz
Samsung 970 EVO NVME SSD
1440p IPS monitor OC'd to 70Hz from 60Hz.
and of course the EVGA Black RTX 2070 8GB...

I'm getting anywhere between 60-130 FPS on a default world with a reasonably big build on it, but nothing crazy. It's not good. Not what I paid for.

I used to have an MSI Dominator laptop in around 2016 with a GTX 870M 3GB, i7 and 16GB DDR with SSD. When I launched MC on that I got over 1000 FPS. Easily way over 300 on a world with builds in it. Got laggy on supermassive worlds I would download from PMC that a build team made...

I don't know what to do about this.

Any advice would be very much appreciated.

Thanks

[comment] this was somehow in my pmc feed [/comment]
Check if you got 2 GPUs, sometimes (especially on laptops) the CPU has an integrated GPU.

Minecraft, in my case, always tends to run off the integrated GPU by default, instead of the dedicated one.

It might be also related to the Minecraft version, e.g. 1.13+ runs worse in some cases than 1.12 and older.

[comment] I do not know what all those hardware version numbers mean also. [/comment]

I did a SuperPosition Benchmark back in April and got the following:
1080p Extreme: 5014
1080p High: 11299

firstly minecraft doesn't force the GPU into 3d clocks, try disabling vsync before moving on

secondly, it sounds like you have done something really wrong on your end to get that sort of frame rate try using this and enable boost lock https://www.evga.com/precisionx1/ dont touch any other sliders unless you are 100% sure you know what you are doing

enabling boost lock will force the card into 3d clocks, causing it to use more power and generate more heat

I tried that and unfortunately it didn't change anything. I had Task Manager open at the same time and GPU usage as at 15% the whole time in-game. CPU spiked to higher usage before but while playing stayed more or less below 20%. Memory allocation didn't help either. Not sure why this is happening. ...

Thanks for your help anyway, star_weaver

if your drivers arent on 440.00 or higher update and do a clean install and i doubt this would help but make sure minecraft is using the latest version of java and not the one that came with it since its 2+ years old
