Server PlayerBase Help?
My server has the potential to be semi-big. We can handle over 300 people without lag, but one thing. Our player base average is from 5-10, and I want it getting around 20-40 soon. I can't pay big money to advertise, but I need help. WE offer kitpvp, survival, creative, and prison. All builds are good and unique. All our players always have fun, but I ran into a problem. Asking on other forums, people said that having all those options with the low player base is a bad idea. I get that they mean, cause if its speed evenly its only about 2-3 per server but yet our players love the variation and they don't have to join a diff server to play kitpvp ect. Im stuck on what to do, I don't want to strip my server to just survival, but I want our player base to grow! Any help?

I think i was the one who told you in another forum that too many options without players is a bad way to go right?
I stand by my opinion.
You should at least have a main focus server, this is the server that you advertise and talk about the most and the main reason why people find and join your server.
In my case i have a Op Factions sever, at the weekends theres abou 100/150 people online, and 25% of the server might be in kitpvp... But the main reason they joined was for Op Factions.
Think of it in the perspective of a players looking for a new server:
I am looking for a new server cause i just quit the one i played on, what do i like? What will a search for? If i like pvp i will probably google "pvp server" if i like factions i will google that and so on.... If you dont have a main "game-mode" players might never reach your server. No one types "Network with 1 millions game-modes" in google.
Instead of having the hard work of making 1 server successful, good, functional etc... you have the hard ass job to make 5 or 6 servers successful, wich is a pretty hard task to endure without spending top dollar in advertisements.
Dont follow the example of servers with 2000 players like mineplex, they are so famous they can afford to have 100 game-modes and basically do whatever they want. Comparing your self to such networks is like comparing you local restaurant to McDonalds, they have a huge team, money, advertisement, developers, custom everything, etc..

Hey there, shadodart1.
Believe me, you aren't even close to the only server owner with this problem. But, the people you've talked to are right. You should scale down. If you start huge with a small player base, you're headed to failure. If you lower what options you have, you can attract more people that way. Also, instead of having super common choices, try coming up with unique games that people have not seen before. For example, Hypixel continually comes out with awesome games that other servers haven't used before. This helps increase their popularity. You could be doing the same thing, because if you use what you have now, you'll be competing with thousands of other servers with those same games, and unless you've got thousands of dollars to advertise, you're just never going to stand out.
I hope this helps, but if you want more advice, feel free to private message me.
