So I wanted to make a server but I don't know how. I tried to follow youtube videos but theirs seemed to work and mine didn't. One time I did get one up but it lagged so bad I just got ride of it. Any ideas on what i can do to fix lag and make one?

As far as how much RAM it's using: "%ProgramFiles(x86)%\Java\jre6\bin\java.exe" -Xms1024M -Xmx1024M -jar craftbukkit-0.0.1-SNAPSHOT.jar nogui (NOTE: I am using Bukkit)
This means the computer uses 1G RAM. since 1024 Megabytes = 1 Gigabyte.

You need to make sure that you are allowing the server to use enough memory, and that your network/internet connection has enough bandwidth, both up and down, to actually host. One thing you can do is make sure that all random programs you have like torrents, chat programs, and things like remote desktop are turned off. This should help with the bandwidth issue. Memory is just something you will need to work on, since it takes at least 1GB to run a server for about 5 people.
How much RAM does your computer have? If it has less than 2G I wouldn't even try making one. Also, if you have 2G RAM make sure you close EVERYTHING else you are running on your computer, almost every program takes some RAM so closing those will increase you speed. I also believe there is a lengthy post on Minecraftforums about how to reduce lag (google it)
