Simple Question

I have created a server, but there is something I just dont have clear.
The ip adress to connect to the server, wich one is it?
I Know you can test by typing localhost but i tried putting my external ip, but it wouldnt load.
Then i tried putting the IPv4 and it worked, so... what ip do i need!
I have already portforwarded too.

try the ip with the port?
I'm pretty sure it's the IPv4 but I've never ran a server before so I don't know
