The letter 'A' doesnt work.
Like I said in the title whenever I type 'A' into chat it highlights everything I typed and deletes it!
All of my controls are default apart from opening up the chat which is 'return' not 't'.

I don't remember how to fix it, sorry.
Just try restarting your computer or re-installing Minecraft.

Try this:
> Go to system prefs
> Go to 'Keyboard'
> Click the little button at the bottom right that says "Modifier Keys"
> Where it says "Command Key" open the little dropdown box and click "No action"
> Then press 'OK'
Hope this helped

This didn't work
Sounds like the ctrl key (or the command key if you're on mac I think) is either jammed or is toggled somehow (ctrl/cmd + A highlights everything). I'm not entirely sure how to fix this, especially if it's on mac, but that's probably your problem.
Yeah, I wasn't expecting that to work :I
Well now disable it.
Did you happen to spill like a drop of water on it?
My old MacBook got a drop of water from rain and the whole keyboard didn't work and I had to get a new one.

You have a Mac I'm guessing..
I also had this, heres how to disable it (Maybe)
Go to System Prefrences.
Go to the little blue circle with a guy that says "Accessibility"
Scroll down to "Mouse and Trackpad"
Disable "Enable Mouse Keys"
Hope this helps
