Ok so recently ive been discussing with another server owner that more players when seeing servers would rather connect to a simple ip then an ip with port. What I mean for example if you were looking at a list of server would you rather go with one with just a simple ip like mc.server.com or xx.xxx.xxx.xxx orrr would you choose the ported ips like mc.server.com:12345 or xx.xxx.xxx.xxx:12345. This is just my theory that when new players look through server lists like the one here or on sites like mcservers and such they would most likely would choose the ones with simple ips then the ones with a port after it.
For the record I would choose a simple ip with words because they are easier to remember.
Especially in the case of getting banner advertisements were you cannot simply copy and paste the ip since its only a picture. Tho we are not referring to banner advertisements in this case we are only talking in general which would you most likely choose out of a list.
Also if you have a comment regarding this please tell me what you think I would like everyone's opinion.

Also a great comment. Little harsh on the 12yr olds laptop part but the rest I agree with. I mean im 22 yrs old and before i went out and spent 200 on a server and website i started off with just a simple server with a simple web site. When i realized this might go some were. I upgraded and upgraded. Anyways tho yes professionalism can go a far way.
^+1 to both of you.
Not only does setting up a subdomain on a domain for their server make it much easier to remember and generally use, it could indicate professionalism in a server. People will obviously have different opinions on this, but I generally think that if they've bothered to buy a domain and set up a subdomain correctly, it's probably not going to be hosted on a 12 year old's laptop.

That was my idea with it to. Like in my case i have my main server mc.blank.com I also plan to open hunger creative and towny server within the upcoming weeks which the nice thing is my players now will easily be able to know which server they want to join by know what type it is. Eg. towny.blank.com games. or hunger.blank.com and create.blank.com although you can do this with ports as well but the players will have to know the diffrent servers ports. I also posted this exact same thread on the minecraftforums the results there seem to be a little ascude. With simple domain ips having 6, number ips with ports having 2 votes and another 2 votes for doesnt really matter.
EDIT*** Although its like you said this is just an extremely small percentage of the minecraft users, we could still use this small percentage to get an estimate of what others would most likey choose.

I would definitely have to agree with you on this. Whenever I make servers, public for everyone, or private for friends, they are always on port 25565 and have a simple domain name like mc,blank, com. This makes it easier for both players and administrators. Emails can than be blank@blank,com, website via www, blank, com, and you can even categorize multiple servers via the same "brand host" using types, like pvp, blank, com, creative, blank, com, even tekkit, blank, com Obviously, each server on its own static wan ip address using port 25565.
Again, that's just how I do it, as its easier for everyone in the long run; my opinion. The survey will tell over time whether people really would care or not. That is, if they tell the truth when taking it. Thought still, this would only be a very small sample of the minecraft community.
