Your friend probably misspelled the link or got a link to a site that is not actually minecraft.net. Similarly, if you were to type faebook instead of facebook, you would probably end up at a site that looks like facebook, but actually is installing various ad viruses and Trojans onto your computer...

I checked and Minecraft.net does not contain ads...
