[TEMP FIX] Weird Lagging Problem?

Hey, I am faced with a problem. For some reason, I start playing Minecraft. Smooth lighting on. Fancy graphics. Far render distance.
I play with fine FPS. Until about 10 minutes pass... My FPS begins to diminish. I have to switch to normal render distance and fast graphics and I am playing at the same FPS as I was before. Then, it continues. Forcing all the way down to lowest settings on Optifine including tiny render distance while only getting 10 FPS.

Is this happening to anyone?
How can I fix this?
What may be causing it?

System Specs:
Processor AMD Phenom(tm) 8400 Triple-Core Processor 2.10 GHz
RAM: 4.00 GB (3.75 usable)
System type: 64-bit Operating System
Operating system: Windows 7 Home Premium

EDIT:
Here's a temporary fix for people having the problem!
1) Play until lag starts.
2) When lag starts, press F3+F to change your Render Distance.
3) Enjoy less lag.
4) Repeat as needed.

When changing your render distance, the game is reloaded and is lag free.

I've been noticing a similar problem. I have optifine set to all the lowest settings basically, and when i first enter the world, I'm getting great fps. But after a while it suddenly becomes too laggy and I have to close out to the main start and re-enter the world. I didn't have the problem till I updated to 1.5.2 though, so maybe it has to do with the new update? My friend is having a problem a little more similar to yours. We might all just need to wait till the next update.

could be a memory leak that floods your ram
the reason why it dissapears if you change the settings is that minecraft resets the ram and reloads everything... untill it floods the ram again

My desktop computer runs on Windows 7 and after using it to run minecraft several times I noticed this same problem, so I went to see a technical advisor about it and the Windows 7 operating system is not made to support gaming applications so sometimes, they dont run as well. However, You are using a good amount of RAM so this may not be the problem for you. Just a possibility.
