Definitely April Fools. I just recognized it when I started without OptiFine. With OptiFine it does not appear.

A few others are having the same problem. From what I've gathered its either April Fools or its Java's new polished texture pack....

I hope its a trick too. It's unplayable as it is. Not a fan at all
