What do I need to do before I make my server public?
I have a few plugins, but what do you recommend I get/do?
Are there any buildings I need?
There isn't really any theme to my server, just basic survival, so I won't need an RPG plugin or anything.

... Your server needs a good reason for people to donate. One good plugin is called RideThaDragon, and you can ride a dragon and control it. Another is DragonTravel. Now, your donators would have a reason to play. Also, if you want your players to have a good time add shops, and some fun plugins like Mob Arena.
I wasn't intending to let people donate.
How is this different to LWC? LWC seems fairly simple already.

Should personally skip EssentialsProtect and EssentialsAntiBuild, they aren't to any help if you got WorldGuard.
NoCheatPlus is also something good to have against cheaters. And if you want players to make their own safe regions can you use GriefPrevention. You can read more about them in the bukkit plugin catalog.
