What's the easiest way to play multiplayer with a friend?

Maybe someone knows the best way to play Minecraft online with a friend, if so, can someone share how to do it?

I suggest you use Aternos to set up a free server. Then, you can give the link to a friend, and they can connect to it.
Open to LAN? ;)
Always works for us, and Mojang was also kind enough to fix the "skin problem" a long time ago. Of course this can become a bit of an issue if you end up far apart from each other, in that case your client can start massively lagging.
But just a good shared session won't be an issue.
